    William C. Chandler
Lions International Youth Camp

William Carroll Chandler,
Past International President
September 4, 1925 – September 17, 2006

In 1980, when Bill Chandler was elected president of the International Association of Lion Clubs, he began an incredible year of travel, visiting all fifty states, all twelve Canadian provinces, and a total of 42 countries. But in his home town of Montgomery, Alabama, USA, where he died September 17 at the age of 81, he will long be remembered for his service to his immediate community through the Lions Club and the Montgomery YMCA. (more)

This Camp is dedicated to the memory of William C. Chandler P.I.P. and founder.

Welcome to the William C. Chandler Lions International Youth Camp. This is a Lions Club program supported by more than 10 different Lions Clubs in the Southeastern United States that has a very rich heritage and because of its success, will continue for years to come!

The Montgomery Lions Club is proud to join with other Lions Club and Districts throughout the Southeastern United States and across the world in sponsoring this program. The sponsoring Lions Clubs are: the Springfield-Franconia Lions Club, the Richmond Lions Club, the Gainesville Lions Club, the Downtown Lions Club and the Metro Lions Club in Atlanta, Moulton Lions Club, the Chattanooga Lions Club, Pensacola Lions Club, and the Lions Clubs in Central Florida - the Winter Haven, Davenport, Dundee, Cypress Gardens, Kathleen, Lake Alfred, & Polk City Florida Lions Clubs.

The campers that participate in this camp will experience many opportunities to learn more about the United States, its government, customs, and traditions. More importantly, they will learn about the culture, traditions, and customs of the many different countries that are represented by the young men that they will meet in the camp!

One key to the success of this camp is the Host Families in the cities that they will visit. During their travels throughout the Southeast the families of Lions and their friends will host the campers. Each family will extend a warm welcome to them and accept them into their home. The campers will become close friends with these families and many of the campers will maintain that friendship long after the camp is over.

This camp was founded by PIP William C. (Bill) Chandler in 1963 and more than 2,500 young men have participated in the camp. The Montgomery Lions Club could not do this alone; we are fortunate to be able to partner with fourteen Lions Clubs in the Southeastern United States and twenty-three Lions Club or Districts throughout the world. The expertise and commitment of these Lions have ensured that this camp always grows better and better each year.

Many outstanding young men have attended this camp and have gone on to achieve success in their lives. Many of them said that they owe their success in part to this camp because it was a “life changing experience” for most of them. It is because of their leadership that the camp has been successful. Those who get the most out of this experience put the interest of the group foremost in all activities. Lasting friendships are forged, and better world understanding is achieved!

Because of the previous Campers, we can proudly say:
"Welcome to the finest Lions International Youth Camp in the World!"

Most Sincerely,

Charles Brightwell, Chairman
Ed Sauls, Co-Chairman
John Albritton, III, Montgomery Coordinator

David Dwyer, Director
Nikki Rothschild, Co-Chairman
